DAVID SETTINO SCOTT passed away in 2024. He had worked full time for over 45 years, as an artist in his studio in San Miguel, CA., and also taught art classes at Cuesta College. David’s work is best described as “California Primitive”. Characteristic of ‘primitivism’ practice is a willed naiveté, often accompanied by an opposition to formal, highly schooled and theoretical approaches to art-making, especially in painting. The primitive artist manifests a strong desire for personal authenticity and freedom of expression in their work.
