Melissa Campbell has been a professional glass artist for over 45 years. The ocean is her muse, which is reflected in many of the extraordinary designs of fused and stained glass work. She loves working with a vast selection of blues, teals and turquoise glass, while adding unique textures and embellishments. She often adds dichroic glass into her radiant free standing designs and wall mounted platters. Her work is dazzling, and is widely collected in homes and businesses throughout the Central Coast.
Patricia Harkness relocated to San Luis Obispo in the 80’s after graduating from college. Pat opened an interior design business and earned a master’s degree in Architecture from Cal Poly. She also taught interior design at Cal Poly and Cuesta College. After retiring, she learned how to create jewelry. Pat uses mixed metals and incorporates Tahitian black pearls from her brother’s pearl farm located near Moorea, French Polynesia.
The ocean is a powerful muse providing an endless source of inspiration. Patricia’s style is representational, utilizing a glazing technique of many thin layers of paint to create a translucent effect that provides depth and emanates light from her oils. During the process, she immerses herself in the environment, spending countless hours observing the subtle shifts of light and color throughout the day. These observations allow her to infuse authentic light that emotional depth into her paintings.
Patti Robins owns a collection of vessels and fabrics that inspire her to create still-life compositions that are intensely dramatic. Patterns and rhythms, especially stripes and polka dots begin the tabletop dialogue. Local color, shapes and patterns are orchestrated to appeal to her compositional theory. Patti studies the shadows cast by the sun as she arranges objects. She prepares a quick sketch and begins to paint. “I let go of reality and paint from the heart, which produces realism and abstraction, vibrating with colorful energy!” Patti Robbins
Paula Delay is a contemporary impressionistic oil painter. Born and educated in Boston, Massachusetts, she has been inspired by the beauty of the Central Coast since her move to California. With an intrinsic love of nature, Paula primarily paints her "scapes", (seascapes, landscapes and cityscapes), en plein air. Her paintings are filled with bright, bold colors and are executed, in an energetic style. Her artwork has been juried into several local and national exhibits and collected internationally.
Paula Landis is a Central Coast artist who embellishes gourds and wood turned bases with coiled pine needles, raffia, beads, waxed linen thread and slices of seashells. The pine needles are gathered locally and from the Tahoe Basin. The materials dictate the outcome as the design evolves and work progresses, resulting in each piece becoming a striking and unique work of art.
Inspired by natures beauty, Phil Wright occasionally begins his paintings en plein air, adding final touches later, while in his studio. His use of rich, natural tones, capture the true essence and light of his subjects. Central Coast rolling hills, vineyards and coastal areas are common subjects, often bathed in gentle light. Phil's careful observation of nature lends a timeless and sophisticated quality to his elegant, landscape paintings.
The amazing interaction between light and glass is what first attracted Richard Mortensen to this medium over 40 years ago. For the past 30 years he has been working in fusing, the “art” of taking glass to an almost liquid state and then slowly cooling to fuse the pieces together. By incorporating pressure into the fusing process, Richard found a greater flexibility in his creations, allowing for more interesting color and pattern combinations. In spite of the associated cuts and burns, Richard keeps a good supply of sheet glass and band-aids on hand. Many of his pieces are influenced by his travels throughout the American Southwest and Latin America.
Richard Rowe has been a Central Coast ceramic artist for over 40 years. Richard prides himself in creating unique pottery that is both functional and decorative. He creates one-of-a-kind pieces; vases, plates, bowls, mugs and exquisitely decorative cache pots for avid succulent plant lovers! Richard's pieces are colorfully designed and executed with the eye of a painter, combined with the skill of glazing techniques. His ceramics also are engaging with their playfulness and happy expression!
Robert C. Perry has been a Central Coast artist since 1984. His elegant, wood turned pots feature premium, hand selected woods that include Fruitless Pear, Manzanita Burl, Cocobolo, English Walnut, Black Walnut, Catalina Ironwood, Macassar Ebony, Gabon Ebony, Portuguese Laurel Cherry and more. These distinctively crafted, Southwest and Asian style creations are accented with a fusion of stunning materials that include marble, brass, silver and other materials for a dramatic finish.
